Digital sovereignty

Your real-time data, under European control

Axual is a European-owned and operated data streaming platform. Run it on your own infrastructure, or let us manage it for you on European cloud. Either way, your data stays within your jurisdiction and your control.

Where your data lives is only half the question

Most cloud providers can offer an EU region. But data residency isn’t the same as sovereignty. If the company operating your platform falls under non-EU jurisdiction, your data can be subject to foreign legal access, regardless of which data centre it sits in.

For organisations in finance, government, energy, and critical infrastructure, event streaming carries some of your most sensitive data: transactions, customer events, operational signals. Sovereignty over that layer isn’t optional. It’s a board-level risk question.

Sovereignty across every layer

European ownership

Axual is owned and operated in Europe. All of our shareholders are EU-based, so there’s no foreign parent company and no exposure to non-EU access laws through your streaming vendor.

Your choice of location

Deploy on-premises, in your own private or public cloud, or as a managed service on Scaleway, a European cloud provider. You decide where your data lives.

Operational control

Built-in governance, role-based access control, and full audit trails mean you always know who can access which data, and why.

No lock-in

Axual is built on open-source Apache Kafka and Strimzi. Your data, your topics, and your skills stay portable. Sovereignty includes the freedom to leave.

Built for regulated industries

European regulation increasingly expects organisations to know exactly where their critical data flows, who controls it, and how they’d exit a provider if needed. Axual helps you meet those expectations with governance, auditability, and deployment control built into the platform.

Helps you address requirements under DORA, NIS2, and GDPR, including third-party risk management, exit strategies, and data access control.

Recognised for sovereignty by independent analysis

In the Data Streaming Landscape Q3 2026, analyst Kai Waehner maps the streaming market by workload and by who controls where your data runs. Axual is positioned as a European, operational, self-managed platform, and named as a vendor where sovereignty is winning deals on its own.

“Axual shows sovereignty winning deals on its own in the EU public sector.”

Bring your own AI. Keep control of your data.

AI is only as sovereign as the data feeding it. Axual’s open, model-agnostic MCP server lets you connect real-time streaming data to the AI models you choose, including European or self-hosted models, without sending your data through a vendor’s proprietary AI layer. Governance and access policies apply to AI agents just as they do to people.

Sovereign by design, in the deployment that fits you

Self-hosted

Run Axual on your own infrastructure, on-premises or in your own cloud environment. Full control, including air-gapped and highly regulated environments.

Managed on European cloud

Let us run Axual for you on Scaleway, a European cloud provider. You get the convenience of a managed service without handing your data to a non-European hyperscaler.

Sovereignty without the disruption

Frequently asked questions

Isn’t an EU data centre region enough?

Not necessarily. Data residency covers where data is stored. Sovereignty also covers who controls it, which laws apply to the company operating it, and whether you can move it freely.

Can I use Axual if my company operates outside Europe?

Yes. Axual supports customers worldwide. European ownership and deployment flexibility are an advantage wherever you need strong control over your data.

Can I migrate from Confluent or a non-European cloud?

Yes, and migration is free, including consultancy. Our engineers plan and support the move with you, whether you’re coming from Confluent or moving to Scaleway from a non-European provider.

Do I lose Kafka compatibility?

No. Axual is built on Apache Kafka and Strimzi, so your existing Kafka clients, tools, and skills carry over.

Can I switch between self-hosted and managed?

Yes. Both run the same platform, so you can start managed and move in-house later, or the other way round, as your requirements change.

Does Axual help with NIS2 and DORA compliance?

Axual gives you the controls these regulations expect for critical data flows: governance, role-based access, full audit trails, deployment control, and a clear exit path. Compliance is ultimately your organisation’s responsibility, but Axual makes the streaming layer easier to account for.
