Multiconsult, a leading engineering and consultancy firm with over 100 years of experience in infrastructure and energy, has built a strong reputation for delivering high-value projects across Norway and beyond. They harness their exceptional skills in engineering and architecture to tackle complex challenges in construction, infrastructure, energy, industry, and mobility, inspiring innovation and progress. Their focus on operational efficiency has paid off, with record-breaking financial results in the first half of 2024, including an impressive EBITA, a measure of company profitability used by investors, and a margin of 13.0% in Q2. These achievements are powered by innovation and a commitment to staying ahead of technological trends, including their recent adoption of event streaming solutions. They are now ready to take their data strategy to the next level by making their processes more efficient and responsive. Here's how they leverage event streaming to do just that.
The Challenge
Multiconsult wanted to maximize the potential of their existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. They needed a way to distribute table data—like employee and project information—to Kafka, making it available in real-time for other systems, including their HRM tools. This would eliminate the need for their HRM system to continuously request updates, allowing it to receive data as soon as changes happen.
Beyond this, Multiconsult operates 3,000 IoT sensors in the field. While they haven’t yet started using event streaming for these sensors, they aim to turn this data into actionable insights in the future.
Starting small was key. Multiconsult wanted an easy entry point with low effort yet sought a personal, hands-on support experience that larger providers do not always offer.
Axual’s Solution
Multiconsult chose Axual’s Cloud (SaaS) platform to enable its event streaming journey. In the first 4-5 months, Axual worked closely with them, providing expertise and ensuring a smooth onboarding experience. Challenges like working with Kafka and Kafka Connect were addressed through proactive support, making it easier for Multiconsult to get started.
With Axual, Multiconsult successfully set up real-time data distribution from their ERP system to Kafka. Now, their HRM system gets instant updates, streamlining operations and unlocking faster decision-making.
As they gain confidence with event streaming, Multiconsult is preparing to expand their use cases, including tapping into the vast potential of their IoT sensor data.
The Outcome
With Axual’s support, Multiconsult has taken a significant step toward real-time data integration. By starting small and scaling as they learn, they’re building a foundation for more responsive and data-driven operations. Their decision to partner with a smaller, customer-focused provider like Axual has paid off, delivering a tailored experience and measurable value.
Multiconsult is ready to move forward, using event streaming to drive innovation and improve efficiency.
